Centro Comercial el Bosque (Av. Del Parque y Alonso de Torres, Quito) – located toward the westernmost part of Quito, this mall (opened in 1982) has over 400 retailers (mostly regional). El Bosque mall is known for holding various promotional events (especially during the holidays), in order to maintain its competitiveness against other Quito-area shopping centers.

Kennedy, Quito) – located in the northernmost part of Quito, this shopping mall was opened in 2007 and now has some 180 retailers (mainly local & regional brands – along with some international ones, like Adidas, Casio, Converse, Lee, and Puma). There’s also an “iStore” (where Apple high-tech consumer electronics are available), as well as other mall amenities, like a multiplex theater, a food court, and banks.

Crowds come here as late as 3:00 am (making this one of the few “after hours” nightspots in Quito).

Cali Salsoteca (Panama 418 e/Tomás Martínez y Imbabura, Guayaquil) – located in the heart of Guayaquil’s Zona Rosa (and a block away from Malecon 2000), this is a major Salsa nightspot. For non-Hispanic visitors, a visit here will expose them to contemporary Latin music (which is prevalent in various Latin countries, as well as Puerto Rico and Hispanic communities in USA).

To no surprise, there’s always a live Salsa band here (with occasional acts & bands representing other genres of Latin music, like Merengue and Bachata).

República y Mañosca, near Plaza de la Américas (Cinemark), Quito) – as the name of this bar implies, this is a theme bar that plays pop, New Wave and dance music from the 1980s (and sometimes even before then). There are occasional live acts booked here as well (including a local singer named Danna – who performs cover songs from that period). Due to the “Retro” theme, the crowds that come here tend to be more mature (30 and above) –but not always.

Q Restaurant/Bar (Plaza Foch E6-12 y Reina Victoria, Quito) – this is one of the more popular catering holes in the Plaza Focha area (offering a variety of cocktails, the best martinis in Quito, and a large selection of wines). At night, the DJ-driven music played there ranges from rock (en espanol) to House and electronic dance music.
